Cupset!
It has taken me a couple of days to fully process my thoughts on the first US Open Cup game to take place in the 14th state to be admitted to the Union. A sellout crowd of Vermonters and our Québécois friends from Brigade Montreal who broke out the pyro and their “Frogs on Tour” banner. Many of us are still trying to speak without our voices cracking.
It is hard to put into words all of the emotions I felt on Tuesday March 19th 2024 but chief amongst them is pride. Pride in the Green Mountain Bhoys singing their hearts out, pride in a raucous packed house in freezing weather and pride in a group of players who showed how much they WANT THIS. We have built a culture around this team of people who truly care about not just results on the pitch, but in showing that any player who puts on the green will have thousands behind them with a hand on their back, urging them forward.
We may be a small city in a small state but our dreams are huge. This was an almost full strength Lexington SC team that we beat with a striker in Cameron Lancaster who is the envy of many within USL 1. They weren’t just playing their reserves or youth and that is something that shouldn’t be overlooked. We are now a bogey team that our next opponent is going to take seriously at the next cup game in April.
I look forward to seeing you all at Virtue.
With love from all the Bhoys and UTFG
